Best dog parks in Vancouver

A visit to any of these Vancouver dog parks is guaranteed to make your pup’s day!

Fresh air and exercise are both great for boosting your mood, and for dog owners a walk in the park comes with the added bonus of making our furry friends very happy too.

Luckily for Vancouverites, we’re blessed with a wide choice of dog-friendly parks that are also just as enjoyable for humans to explore.

Vancouver was recently ranked as one of the top dog-friendly cities in the world, and no doubt the vast number of great dog parks played a big part in it’s inclusive in the list.

It’s easy to forget just how many fantastic options there are when it comes to parks that welcome our four-legged friends in the city, so here’s a collection of 10 of our favourite Vancouver dog parks to remind us just how lucky we are.

But don’t just take our word for it… these happy furry faces say it all!

1. Spanish Banks Off-Leash Dog Park

Who doesn’t love the beach?! This dog park really is the best of both worlds, and is just as much fun for humans as it is for our pups. There’s a sprawling sandy beach where you can relax while your pup burns off some energy splashing in the ocean, or if your dog prefers, they can run up and down the long expanses of grass while you take in the stunning views.

It’s also connected to some beautiful trails in Pacific Spirit Park if you want a longer walk before heading home!

2. Charleson Dog Park

This park has fantastic views of False Creek and is perfect place to stop off if you’ve been walking along the Seawall. If your dog loves splashing and getting muddy, then they will love the waterfall pond area – and there’s also a grassy area to play some fetch.

Some things to note before a trip to Charleson is that the waterfall pond off-leash hours are 5pm-10am from June to September, and all day October to May, and that you must ensure your curious pooch keeps out of the duck pond!

3. Everett Crowley Off-Leash Dog Park

The varied terrain and multiple off-leash trails to choose from makes this dog park a great choice if you want to get some exercise in alongside your pup.

This is a great choice for dog parents who prefer less busy parks as due to the selection of trails, they don’t tend to get too overcrowded. With so many wooded trails to choose from, neither you or your pup will get bored of the same old walks everyday. Added bonus – there’s plenty of sticks lying around for your pup to play with!

4. Hadden Park/Kits Dog Beach

Right in the centre of Kitsilano, this is one of the most well-known and popular dog parks in the city – and it’s another beach which is always great for dog parents!

Beautiful views of the North Shore mountains, lots of space, and a chilled out atmosphere make this beach a perfect place to relax with your pup on a sunny day, enjoy a swim together or take a sandy sunset stroll in the evening.

5. Queen Elizabeth Dog Park

At 152 metres above sea level, the highest point of the city, Queen Elizabeth Park has some amazing views of Vancouver that are well-worth a visit anytime of the year.

Sure, your dogs probably don’t care much about the views, or the Insta-worthy pup-pics you can get at this iconic park, but they’ll definitely love the very spacious off-leash area.

6. John Hendry (Trout Lake) Park

This spacious park is a very popular spot for local dog owners so can get a little busy during summer months, but don’t let that put you off as there is plenty of green space for large dogs to enjoy! The north end of the lake is reserved for our four-legged friends and the fresh water beach is the perfect place for dogs to cool off during sunny days, or refresh after tiring themselves out exploring.

7. Ambleside Park

With over 8.5 acres of grassy lawns, beach access and trails, your dog will adore all the space in this lesser-known Vancouver park.

There are some amazing views of the Lions Gate Bridge and Stanley Park for humans to enjoy while they relax by the beach, and there’s usually plenty of other dogs around for your pup to play with!

8. Coopers’ Park

Located east of the Cambie Street Bridge alongside the Seawall, this scenic off-leash dog park is a great choice for Downtown dog parents.

As well as the handy location, the views are beautiful and the spacious grassy area is perfect for playful pups.

The fountains at the west side of the park are not only practical for thirsty pups, but are also cute dog sculptures that are definitely appreciated by the humans!

9. New Brighton Dog Park

This Park is located in the Hasting-Sunrise area, on the west-side of the Second Narrows Bridge and offers a large, fenced-in expanse of grass that active dogs will love.

There is also beach access to the Burrard Inlet if your pup likes to paddle, and there’s some great views of the North Shore for dog parents to enjoy!

10. Devonian Harbour Park

Located north of Denman and West Georgia, the vast lawns at this park make it a favourite amongst many Vancouver pups – especially those with lots of energy!

The grassy areas lead to a little rocky beach that’s perfect for your pooch to take a refreshing dip after all those long games of fetch. As for the humans, grab a blanket, relax and enjoy the views of Coal Harbour.
