Indoor activities for your dog
Indoor activities for your dog
It is getting chillier outside and with shorter days, you don’t need to go outside to have fun with your pup. In this blog post we will cover some fun indoor activities for your dog that will also keep you entertained!
1. Start Your Day With Play
Getting your heart rate up is a great way to start you and your dog’s day – so give your dog some morning playtime with a game of tug-of-war or an indoor ball chase if you have the space.
2. Teach Your Dog A New Trick
Staying inside gives you the perfect opportunity to teach your dog a new trick! If you don’t have these down already, here is a good place to start:
Sit and Stay – A classic command. If this is executed properly it can be useful in many situations.
Leave It – Good for playtime and when they’ve got a hold of something dangerous or not for them.
Settle – This is very beneficial for an over-active, excitable or anxious pup who needs some direction from time to time.
Come – Basic recall is important in order to feel comfortable letting your dog off-leash tp get the exercise they need.
3. Enjoy a Dog Yoga Class
Keep your mind and body active while working out alongside your pup. It might not be the first thing to come to mind when you think of dog friendly activities to do indoors, but it’s a great way to exercise and bond with each other.
There are lots of dog yoga videos available online that you can follow along with or try finding one to join in person, in your city.
4. Meet other dog owners online
Join local Facebook groups for dog owners in your area! This will give you the opportunity to share tips and tricks, ask questions, share cute pics or anything else doggy related! Once you feel comfortable and willing to go out, meet up with these new connections so your dogs can socialize.
5. Practice Some Self Care
Create a spa day for you and your furry bestie from the comfort of your own home. You can give your dog that long over-due bath, getting them all fresh and clean.
6. Have a photoshoot
Everybody wants that perfect shot of their pup!
Whether or not you’re the type of dog owner who has created an Instagram account just for your pup, getting some nice photos of them is something you can cherish forever. You don’t need a fancy camera or a detailed backdrop in order to do this!
7. Plan a Treat Scavenger Hunt
Create a fun scavenger hunt for your pup around the house by hiding their favourites treats in different rooms.
You can find an area in your home and hide a few treats for your dog to ‘search and sniff’ and it’s one of the easiest and most fun dog friendly activities to do indoors.
Depending on how long you want your dog to be occupied depends on how difficult your hiding spots are! This is also great fun for you as you get to watch how excited they are as they run around locating the hidden treats.
8. Make Smoothies For You and Your Pup
Who doesn’t love a smoothie? They are a fresh, tasty treat and we found some recipes that are not only delicious for you, but are safe for you dog to drink as well.
There are plenty of safe and nutritious recipes to choose from online.
9. Use Interactive Dog Toys
A great way to mentally stimulate your pup and keep them entertained is by using interactive dog toys.
Treat-dispensing dog toys reward them for solving puzzles and keep them mentally and physically active while you’re away.
10. Watch A Movie
We all need some snuggle time with our furry friends at the end of the day. It keeps us both relaxed and chilled which is what we all need right now.
Here are some of our favourite doggy films:
– Dogs
– Beethoven
– Togo
– The Secret Life Of Pets
– Marley & Me
– 101 Dalmations
– Frankenweenie (if you want to get into the Halloween spirit)
So, put on a movie, curl up with your pup and wind down with your favourite snacks!
